Carrie Headshot

Hello. I'm Carrie. I am educated and trained in both school and mental health counseling through the University of Rochester. I have extensive experience working with students and clients in primary, secondary and post-secondary education through the Rochester City School District (RCSD), University of Rochester (UR) and Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). In 2017, I completed my Certificate of Advanced Study in Mental Health Counseling to develop a richer understanding of psychotherapy to utilize in my future work.

In my current work, I use a goal-directed collaborative approach to promote psycho-therapeutic change while providing a safe environment at all times. As a therapist and counselor, I want my clients to not only gain, but also understand, emotional resilience so they are better able to adapt to adversity and difficulties without long term complications.  I am also a very firm believer in client advocacy. I want my clients to develop strong communication skills in expressing what they need in addition to feeling comfortable in doing so.

I have been immersed in various forms of the counseling field since I graduated with my Masters’ degree in 2012. I have worked as a School Counselor in the city of Rochester since 2017 and as a therapist since 2018. As a therapist, I help clients who struggle with anxiety, depression and difficulty adjusting to new situations and life circumstances. I have also worked extensively as a group therapist assisting clients who have struggled with unhealthy eating behaviors.

My role as your therapist is not to tell you what to do. I will guide you and brainstorm with you ways to better navigate this up and down journey called life. I will work with you to come up with coping skills and strategies that work for you and that you can use outside the office in your everyday life.

Some have called me an old soul. I am also a dog mom, coffee lover, bookworm, lover of all things 90’s and a glorified human jukebox. I’ve been told that I am very good at identifying a song within the first five seconds of it starting and have future aspirations to be on ‘Name that Tune’. I love classic rock and going to concerts. Baking is my stress reliever because there is a beginning, middle and end.
